Book Cover

Fragments of Time
Fantasy book cover

Fragments of Time is a conceptual book cover design created as a creative assignment,
focused on visual storytelling and atmosphere. The project explores how illustration,
color, and composition can communicate narrative and emotion.

Overview
Background

Fragments of Time was designed as part of an educational project with full creative freedom. I chose to work within the fantasy genre, imagining a story centered around time, memory, and an ordinary character drawn into an extraordinary world.

Focus

The focus of the project was to translate a fictional narrative into a strong visual concept. The cover needed to suggest genre, mood, and mystery while remaining visually engaging and readable as a physical book object.

Design Approach
Core Idea

The core idea behind Fragments of Time is the fragility and unpredictability of time. I imagined a world where time can be touched, altered, or broken, with the hourglass acting as a central symbol of urgency and consequence.

Visual Choices

The composition combines a glowing hourglass with mythical elements such as a floating castle and a dragon. These elements introduce a sense of wonder and adventure while reinforcing the fantasy genre and narrative depth.

Color & Type

Soft purples, pinks, and warm highlights were chosen to create a dreamlike, ethereal atmosphere. Typography was carefully adjusted to balance clarity and mood, supporting the sense of mystery without overpowering the imagery.

Outcome
Process

The cover was created in Adobe Photoshop using compositing techniques, lighting effects, and careful layering. Images from Adobe Stock were combined and refined to build a cohesive visual scene across the full book jacket.

Final look

The final design presents a cohesive front cover, spine, and back, forming a unified visual narrative. The mockups demonstrate how the cover works as a physical object, not just a single image.

What It shows

This work highlights my approach to storytelling through composition, symbolism, and visual clarity rather than explicit narrative detail.

Final notes

Designing Fragments of Time was an exploration of narrative through visual atmosphere. Inspired by themes of time, memory, and fragility, the cover was designed to feel mysterious and emotionally inviting - encouraging the viewer to pause, imagine, and step into the story.
